I was robbed of my wallet by pickpocket on platform of the jacson station. As I was getting in a train, some strange guy who was africa-american and quite old guy, looked like falling down and then pushed me. I noticed something weird happened, so I checked my pocket. However My wallet which was in my poket was gone. I was so fricking out. I was chasing the old guy. Finally, I catched him and asked him where was my wallet and said "bring back my wallet right now". but, he said he didn't steal my wallet. I checked his pocket. really there was no my wallet in his pocket.

By conincidence, there was one security guard with a dog near us, so I thought maybe I can rely on security guard and she will handle this accident. I explainded the security guard what happened, but she didn't catch the old man. Furthermore, she just let him go and asked me so, what did I want to do. I was so embressed. Luckly, I could find my wallet around a station stair. In my wallet, there was cards and certifications, but without money. Maybe someone who took my wallet just withdrew money and throw away the wallet on ground. Though I lost around $65 money, I didn't lost wallet, cards and certifications. I could feel a little bit relaxed rather than I didn't find anything, but I was upset about the accident. I wanted what was going on and figure out why it happened to me. I went to police officers and explaned what occured. they seemed not to be serious about the accident. They took me to the place where the incident had occured and asked the security guard, CTA staff. They explained the security guard could not catch the old man, because she didn't watch the accident at all, so according a criminal law in USA, it is not allowed to catch someone without a proof. It was unforgettable accident.

Someone could pay more than others.

I was living in a house where I had found by a website, when I had been in Korea. The rent fee was 850 dollars per month including utilities. I had checked whether I could use a laundry, rent fee included electricity, water and gas before I had left Korea. After I had come to USA, I had been able to meet many friends. From those friends, I realized my rent fee was not cheap comparing to other housing rent fees.

I wanted to move into a new house which is cheaper than my home. Furthermore, the distance between my home and Intrax required me to take a train for 45 minute. It took around 1 hour from door to door. Because of these reasons, I decided to move.

There were two roommates in my floor. After a few days from my first day, my roommate was changed, new roommate came home. He was from Hungary. He told me he was traveling all over the world. He said he loved a travel, and staying in Chicago would be quite short time like stopping by. His age was 40 year old. However he not only looked so young, but also had a kind of young mind. Thus, I could be friendly with him easily. We used to go out for eating dinner in restaurants together. Someday, I was arranging my clothes which were needed for cleaning. I had to go to a coin laundry shop, because there was no a washing machine in my house. At that time, my roommate said “why don’t you use a washing machine in first floor”. I was surprised since I had never heard there was a washing machine in the house.

He told me my landlord allowed him to use the washing machine. I said I had never heard about it. Then he asked me how much I paid for rent. As I told him I paid $850 for rent, he was surprised and then he talked to me he paid $400 per week. I was shocked about it. He lived in same house, floor as me, and even his room size was smaller than me, but he had to pay $188 more than me per a week. It sounded weird, because I thought it wasn’t fair at all. He seemed annoyed, but he explained it may have been a kind of an America rule. In America, someone who was able to pay more money than others should or can pay more. It was not weird in here. Just, my landlord had looked for someone who was able to pay $400 per a week. He had told the landlord he could pay the money for rent. That’s it.

Though I already heard about explanation from my roommate, I couldn’t understand it. It was strange still to me. My roommate’s the attitude to try to accept this situation seemed to be weird. If I had been in Korea or if I had been my roommate, I would have complained about it in a negative way. However he didn’t do anything in terms of this transaction. At the moment, I thought that I may need more time so as to understand the America culture.

Interesting Korean culture!

Culture is the way for people to think, to live. There are a lot of countries in the world. That means many cultures also exist. Because every country has own culture, this difference between countries can make a kind of embarrassed situation.

Let me talk about interesting Korea culture. Usually, in Korea, older people tend to treat young people. We think older people can get a more money than younger people. Even if a situation is different from this belief that older people have more money than younger, this treat would happen, for example, in university. In university, actually everybody doesn't have enough money to treat somebody, because we are students, we are not worker. Nevertheless, we would treat younger guys like treat a meal, drink and other things. The reason why we behave like this is that I think we have a kind of class as age. If my age is 24, I can talk with someone whose age is under 24 with Korean with impolite way, but when I start conversation with someone whose age is upper 24, I should use Korean with polite way. They sound different and as the way we use Korean, the relationship tend to be decided. It is like 'I am younger than you, so I will follow your opinion many times, but you would better treat me. In the process the older people take care of younger and younger follow older, we can make a friendship more strong. It seems like strange something, but If someone come to Korea, and experience it. Maybe everybody can understand the way we do. Thank you for reading.!!

GM food for business

What are Koreans eating now?

GM is an abbreviation for ‘genetically modified’, so GM food is a genetically modified food. As the technology has developed, various GM foods have been invented. Scientists who have researched technology of GM food insist on it would be a useful method to make life better. Nevertheless, the safety of GM food is not confirmed yet. Usually experts say, after something is invented, if time goes by from one generation to the next with no problem, safety of the something can be believed; however, time about GM food doesn’t pass by, even one generation yet. Nobody can be sure about the safety of GM food.

Most GM foods are used for a business purpose. When we compare of a GM food and an organic food, a GM food could be made much cheaper than an organic food. Thus, the price of a GM food product could be cheaper than an organic product. Because business people can provide a food as a cheap price to a market, they can get much more money than before. Some of experts say that GM food is useful, in case a war happen and we need to give foods to a poor country like Africa, which is lack of a food. If it is, we will be able to cover many problems in the world. It may be really demanded to us, but the problem is that GM food has been used for other purpose so far. It has been used for business.

Nowadays, many GM foods have been consumed in Korea. There are many markets which sell GM food. After FTA (Free Trade Agreement) between Korean and USA, a lot of GM food that are produced in USA, have come to Korea, however most Korean seem not to care about GM food. They are just choosing a GM food, because it is cheaper than an organic food or because they don’t know that something, they choose, is GM food, so education about GM food is really needed for preventing this phenomenon. We should educate people about the possibilities that GM foods could be dangerous. Even if we inform them the danger, if they are insisting on eating GM food, it is their free will, but at least, to inform the truth about GM food is our duty.

We need GM food in case a war happen, because a war could be a food war and many Africa children have died as they don’t have enough food to eat. It is really the severe problem. To block the problems, we need the GM food and the GM technology, but we must consider the danger which GM food has. We have to educate people who don’t have enough information about GM food. The more many people have interests about GM food, the better the situation will be.
